Kids’ Movie Night on Feb. 17

The Children’s Movie Night will return on February 17, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in the community theater (adjacent to the family pool). The movie will be “Mr. Popper’s Penguins“.

In this family comedy, Jim Carrey is Mr. Popper, a driven businessman who is clueless when it comes to the important things in life – until he inherits six penguins. Popper’s penguins turn his swank New York apartment into a snowy winter wonderland – and the rest of his life upside-down. Filmed on a refrigerated soundstage with real Emperor Penguins, Mr. Popper’s Penguins is a contemporary adaptation of the classic book.

Pool Closures

In its January meeting the board voted to move forward on replacement of cracked concrete around the skimmers at both the adult and family pools. The Board approved a bid to replace the damaged areas with new concrete, and also to sandblast the pool deck to remove unsightly white dots that have appeared. After this maintenance the deck will be sealed which should prevent or delay additional deterioration in the future.

Proposed Tree Plan for Summit Park Drive and Shady Canyon

Attached is a proposed plan for tree planting in the open area near the corner of Shady Canyon and Summit Park Drive. This plan was presented to the board at the January 2012 board meeting. The board and Landscape Committee welcomes comments from residents. You may post a comment here.

The traffic study done by RK Engineering has done and is posted here. At the January meeting the Board discussed imposing a 35 MPH speed limit on Summit Park Drive. Although all Board members are in favor of taking additional measures to reduce speeds on Summit Park Drive, there was not a consensus on posting speed limits on Summit Park Drive. The Board decided to study the matter further and consider it again at a later meeting. Tree Management Policy

As you may recall, last year the Board began consideration of a management policy for our community’s most valuable and expensive resources: our common area trees. These are the trees located on our hillsides and along our streets and center medians. As our young community continues to mature, so do our trees, and in recent years we have experienced an increasing number of complaints from residents that association trees are blocking the views from their homes. In some cases residents have even taken matters into their own hands, and moved to trim or top association trees, which is illegal and can subject offenders to fines and even criminal prosecution. In response to residents’ concerns, there is strong support on the Board for a tree management policy that will take into account the needs of all stakeholders, including residents who want to enjoy the beautiful views available in our community, as well as their downhill neighbors who want to enjoy the screening and privacy afforded by a lush canopy of trees. If you have views you would like to share, let the Board know how you feel about these matters. Your feedback is very much appreciated.

Landscape

One of the Board’s goals for 2012 is to make significant improvements to the many deteriorated slopes in our community. Our Landscape Committee has already begun work on some of these projects. The Board aims to ramp up work on getting problem areas under control. President’s Message By Jim Slaughter

Following last month’s elections, the Summit at Turtle Ridge Board of Directors held its first meeting of 2012 on January 9^th. The Board welcomed two new members, Mike Ampe and Evan Chemers. At the first meeting of the year the Board typically elects new officers. The new Board elected the following officers to serve during 2012:

President: Jim Slaughter.

Vice President: Harald Grabowsky

Secretary: Kevan Nasserzadeh

Treasurer: Mike Ampe

Director at Large: Evan Chemers

Many thanks are due to Harald Grabowsky for his very hard work as president of our community association during the past two years. Harald has spent a tremendous amount of time in undertaking projects to maintain and improve our community. He brought great skills and critical judgment to the job, and left very large shoes to fill as I take on the duties of president of our community association.

Revised Parking Regulations

The newly revised parking restrictions have been posted on the website and can be viewed on our Governing Documents page. A significant change is that cars parked illegally in fire lanes are subject to an immediate tow.
